The rental truck I’ve been in this week (promaster life) is a trim level “LD”?!?! I can think of one old joke involving truck owners and those initials. Side note in the rental spec world Im still liking the ford over the Chevy and yota i had recently. Would like to try a Ram. The promaster is leaking a good amount of oil if anyone’s curious why it’s back at the shop. Had to be something caused by the transmission repair last week. Overnite puddle for reference

I will always be perplexed by “Limited” trims. I mean are you saying I’m limited in the options I can have on my top trim car? Or are they saying it’s limited production? Ha limited to how many they can make if so.

I do wiring/gps/cams on commercial vehicles, and the Promaster gets no love. They take longer than a transit to do my thing, and I’m seeing a lot less of them the last year or so. The plumbers/hvac guys really seem to hate them.

Out of interest I looked up promaster prices on Autotrader. 33 Effin grand for a LWB? The equivalent in the UK (OK it’s diesel and manual) is $19k from a dealer.

I don’t want to even look up the real meaning but may be LD Limited Duty or Light Duty ? No matter what you are so right about it being a weird thing to stick on a car

Maybe I just live in a parallel universe where FCA products are reliable. I don’t know. I had a Fiat 500 for a bit and it never let me down. My ProMaster rolled over 60k this week and I’ve had it for 11 months. Here’s the extent of the problems I have had so far:
- The sliding door handle on the outside wasn’t properly connected when we got it, and was fixed under warranty.
- The ‘BRAKE’ warning light has come on twice. Both times it was while I was coasting down a 6% or higher grade using engine braking and not touching the brake at all. Both times I pulled over, stopped the engine, waited, and restarted the engine. Both times after restart, the ‘BRAKE’ light went out and stayed out. First time was at 25k, second at 50k. I expect it to happen at 75k.
- The rear back-up sensors dislike snow. As in if there is any snow on the bumper at all, I get a “SERVICE PARKING SENSOR SYSTEM” warning. I don’t mean snow on the sensors; I mean anywhere on the bumper. As soon as I clear it off, it works fine .
- If I don’t slam every door, they won’t close properly and won’t let you lock them .
That’s it. I’m waiting for (and have been expecting from the start ) the other shoe to drop, but so far it hasn’t happened. Out of the rest of our relatively young fleet, only one has had a major issue. One of the older ProMasters needed the cylinder head rebuild that all older Pentastar V6s seem to eventually need .

It’s the Lettuce and Duck trim! What’s wrong with that?

never heard about the brake one but we live in a no grade kind of area. Mine actually ran pretty well for the first 80000 miles. had a lot of quarks like you mentioned slamming the doors random alarms going off and I had some Disco Lighting in the back that they truthfully never resolved just flashes on and off while you drive around quite a bit as if someone’s trying to SOS that they are trapped inside duct taped and bound. But at some point just under a hundred thousand it gave up every month something major breaks. I’m seriously only weeks away from a new van so if I ride it out in a rental so be it. I actually just stopped at the ProMaster to get some stuff out of it here’s the most recent puddle from 2 days of sitting there. See how far forward it is? Leads me to believe it's just an oil cooler line but if that was the case why would they already have the van for 4 days at this point they tell me nothing

Th is one is wired up too . Oh! New theory the GPS installer guys are to blame ! They came in here with their cheap wire taps and caused my electrical Gremlins which in turn caused the motor and drivetrain to fall apart multiple times. :)

Yep crazy here when I get home I’ll post the real sticker. But t hen don’t forget to add a couple thousand dollars worth of Adrian Steel lockers and storage in the back. Can’t remember but I think it rolled away for about 35 or so

It's truly unreal how much you've had to put up with on that thing. FCA should have to give you a free vehicle of your choice. Though that would probably not be one of theirs at this point, right?

Honestly they have lost me. The Promaster killed any hope. I’m just FCA cursed. Before we purchased the new Odessey w e drove the Pacifica and really liked it for the money but on a 3rd test drive (1st drive was a random trim on the lot warmed up ready to go 2nd was the hybrid, surprisingly hard to get a drive where the battery was not at zero it was like pulling teeth to g e t them to charge one. And 3rd was a van we were going to purchase with all the specs we wanted but it broke down on us only made it .25 miles from the dealership it had like 6 miles on it and the engine took a dump . W e looked at each other and said its a sign. Went and paid a little more for a lot better van. SOOOOOOO happy I didn’t ignore the signs as I now see the Pacifica’s in various stages of brand new but trashed everywhere around town. I’m being serious really study them as they pass something is wrong with half of them like stuff falling off and whatnot. Oh and they are shutting off while people drive them hundreds have complained.. They had so much cash on the hood of a new design that alone should have been a warning sign but I’m cheap and almost bit. Can’t hate on the ram trucks and the charger/challengers are cool and seem to hold up but are in my opinion super dated. Skipped the toyota van for that reas on too. Don’t want to buy something that already feels 10 years old since I keep them for a lon g time. Our last caravan was an 09 small problems here and there but never too many issues and always easy to fix.

Does anyone make a good reliable minivan anymore? I hated the Sienna because it felt cheap and nasty , the Odyssey has garbage transmissions, the Pacifica is made by FCA, and I haven’t heard the best things about the Sedona.

My parents own the Sedona it works and that’s about all I can say about it they love it but they also bought it kinda hard to go back now:) Honda has two new transmissions with this most recent body style and they did not make them so I’m hoping they do better but the reality is its a dead Market any development going forward will be minimal at best. Fca’s rear infotainment system is the bomb. The kids each get a 21" screen and can play tons of interactive games with each other.
